Charlotte Checkers CHECKERS AGREE TO TERMS WITH ELGIN REID
Defenseman was ECHL All-Star as rookie in 2008-09

Charlotte Checkers head coach and general manager Jeff Daniels, along with senior vice president of hockey business operations Derek Wilkinson, announced today that the team has agreed to terms with defenseman Elgin Reid on a two-way contract.

Reid, 23, spent the majority of last season with the ECHL’s Florida Everblades, where he tallied five goals and 16 assists (21 points) in 43 games, while leading all Florida defensemen with four points (1g, 3a) in six playoff games. He also appeared in nine games with the Albany River Rats (AHL), adding two assists.

The native of Milton, Ontario has registered 62 points (21g, 41a) in 104 games as a professional and was named to the 2009 ECHL All-Star Game in his rookie season.

Prior to turning professional, Reid played five seasons in the Ontario Hockey League with Ottawa, Owen Sound and Windsor, where he scored 28 goals and 82 assists (110 points) in 265 career junior games. He helped Ottawa to a berth in the 2005 Memorial Cup.

The Checkers’ home opener is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 15 at Time Warner Cable Arena.
