Whalers fans will recognize his name as his father, Don Maloney, played 13 seasons in the NHL with the New York Rangers (11 years) and 38 games in the 78-79 season with the New Haven Knight Hawks. Currently Don Maloney is the General Manger of the Phoenix Coyotes.
The signing of Don Maloney also gives the Danbury Whalers another link
Whalers Coach Phil Esposito said about the signing, “He comes to us from the Phoenix Coyotes NHL main camp. He’s a skilled forward with good hands and good speed. He’s a big presence on the ice at 6’1 and 190 pounds. He’ll bring a physical presence along with some experience down the middle as a centerman. He’ll be a good addition to our offensive production.”
Maloney will make his debut with the Danbury Whalers tomorrow night against the 1000 Islands Privateers. Game time is set for 7:35 at the Ice Arena.
