AHLTV to debut this fall on an all-new platform designed to optimize the viewing experience

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. … The American Hockey League today announced an enhanced partnership with HockeyTech and the launch of a brand-new streaming platform, AHLTV.

The creation of AHLTV marks the latest expansion of the American Hockey League’s long-standing relationship with HockeyTech, which also provides real-time scoring and statistical services for the AHL and its 31 teams and hosts the AHL’s official website and mobile app.

“We are extremely excited to introduce AHLTV beginning this fall,” said David Andrews, President and Chief Executive Officer of the American Hockey League. “AHLTV reflects the high standards that our fans and stakeholders have come to expect from the American Hockey League, and HockeyTech shares our vision of bringing the excitement of AHL hockey as an enhanced digital experience to fans who can’t make it to the rink.”

“HockeyTech is proud to launch AHLTV in a true partnership with the American Hockey League,” said HockeyTech founder and CEO Stu Siegel. “Using the most advanced, cutting-edge digital technologies, AHL fans will have the most innovative multimedia hockey viewing experience available worldwide.”

Available at theahl.com/AHLTV, AHLTV will feature live streaming of every AHL game in high definition on a desktop, laptop, tablet, and mobile devices, as well as over-the-top (OTT) platforms such as Roku, Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV, Chromecast and Android TV. AHLTV subscriptions, which include live and archived games, will begin at just $79.99 (US) for the entire 2018-19 regular season.

More than simply a means to watch games, AHLTV will use HockeyTech’s leading technology to form a full digital ecosystem in which data and video are integrated to create an experience unique to each user. Game feeds will be seamlessly combined with the AHL’s statistical database from LeagueStat, providing real-time scoring updates for fans as they watch, and viewers will also be able to capture and save their own highlight clips to share with other AHLTV users within the platform.

In addition to the standard produced video feeds, AHLTV games will also feature HockeyTech’s ViPr system of video production, with every arena outfitted with a camera that will capture the entire sheet of ice in one high-definition, undistorted, panoramic view that lets mobile viewers control what they see by pinching, zooming and tilting their phone.

Fans can visit theahl.com/AHLTV now to register for a free AHLTV account and to purchase subscriptions for the 2018-19 regular season.

HARTFORD, CT- The trade deadline has had some odd, and even comical moments for the Smith family.

“If something should happen people will know before I do anyhow.

“My little brother (Reilly Smith of the Las Vegas Golden Knights) was traded twice and found out on social media before he got a call from the team.

“First time was in the summer on draft day. He was bringing his boat back in and his nephew greets him, ‘Hey, you’ve been traded!”

The second time, TSN got a hold of him before the team did.

Austin McKay Inks Contract with

Swamp Rabbits

Power forward signs with Greenville for second pro season

BY: Brian Tosti, Greenville Swamp Rabbits

Greenville, SC – The Greenville Swamp Rabbits, proud ECHL affiliate of the New York Rangers and the AHL’s Hartford Wolf Pack, announced the addition of forward Austin McKay for the 2017-18 season. McKay becomes the Swamp Rabbits fifth signing of the offseason, joining Nick Betz, Ricky DeRosa, Sean Flanagan, and Chad Duchesne.

McKay, 26, split time between the ECHL and SPHL last season, seeing action with the Rapid City Rush, Atlanta Gladiators, Evansville Thunderbolts, and Pensacola Ice Flyers. The 6-foot-5, 220-pound forward opened the year netting nine points (3G, 6A) in 14 SPHL games including a season high four helpers on November 26th. His performance earned a call up to the ECHL with Atlanta which featured a game in Greenville. Later in the season, McKay earned an extended stay with the Rapid City Rush from February 10th to March 4th. In 14 total ECHL games last season, McKay garnered seven points (4G, 3A).

“Austin took big steps last season in the ECHL and brings a physical tenacity onto the ice that gives us depth down the middle,” said Head Coach Brian Gratz. “We’re excited to have a player of his size and ability join the Swamp Rabbits.”

The Toronto, Ontario native made his ECHL debut on April 8th, 2016 with the Brampton Beast and played two games following the completion of his senior season at Lake Superior State University. McKay captained the Lakers that season and ended his collegiate career with 103 games and 13 points (8G, 5A), earning WCHA All-Academic Honors in 2015.

“I’m going to be the guy to work hard every night. I play a physical game and want to be reliable in my own zone and then chip in offensively,” said McKay. “Overall, it’s about being an honest and hardworking, two-way player and I’m excited to bring that to Greenville. Hopefully, we can take the next step further in the playoffs this season.”

Before joining the collegiate and pro ranks, McKay played junior hockey in the Atlantic Junior Hockey League for the Drayton Valley Thunder and tallied 76 points (35G, 41) in 115 games over two seasons. His final season featured 53 points (26G, 27A) in 58 games to lead the team in goals and rank among the top-20 AJHL scorers.

The Swamp Rabbits and their newest forward open the season against the Wheeling Nailers on Oct. 13, 2017. The puck will drop for the Swamp Rabbits’ Opening Weekend at 7 p.m. EST at the Bon Secours Wellness Arena.
