Charlotte Checkers HURRICANES TRIM TRAINING CAMP ROSTER TO 26

Five players head to Charlotte (AHL); Checkers camp opens Monday

Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has assigned five players from its training camp to its top minor-league affiliate, the Charlotte Checkers of the American Hockey League (AHL).

The five players assigned to Charlotte are forwards Jon Matsumoto, Riley Nash, Jerome Samson and Jared Staal, as well as defenseman Bryan Rodney. An updated Hurricanes training camp roster is attached to this release.

The Charlotte Checkers open their 2010 training camp on Monday at Extreme Ice in Indian Trail, NC. For more information on the Checkers’ training camp, please visit www.gocheckers.com.

The Carolina Hurricanes continue their 2010 exhibition schedule on Sept. 29 at Florida (7 p.m., Hurricanes Radio Network) before returning to the RBC Center for their final North American preseason game against Atlanta on Oct. 1 (1:30 p.m., video stream at www.CarolinaHurricanes.com, Hurricanes Radio Network). Carolina will begin its 2010-11 regular-season campaign with back-to-back games against the Minnesota Wild in Helsinki, Finland, on Oct. 7-8, as a part of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere.
