HURRICANES REASSIGN JON MATSUMOTO TO CHARLOTTE

Forward played in 10 games during first NHL stint

Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has reassigned forward Jon Matsumoto (mat-suh-MOH-toh) to the Charlotte Checkers of the American Hockey League (AHL).

Matsumoto, 24, recorded two goals and averaged 7:44 of ice time in 10 games during his first stint in the NHL after being recalled from Charlotte on Oct. 31. Prior to his recall, the Ottawa, Ont., native totaled three goals and six assists (9 points) in 10 games for the Checkers. Matsumoto (6’0”, 184 lbs.) was acquired by the Hurricanes from the Philadelphia Flyers on June 26, in exchange for Carolina’s seventh-round pick in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft (Richard Blidstrand). Originally drafted by Philadelphia in the third round of the 2006 Entry Draft, Matsumoto has tallied 84 goals and 98 assists (182 points) in 261 career AHL games with Philadelphia, Adirondack and Charlotte.

The Carolina Hurricanes travel to Boston today, where they will take on the Bruins Friday in an afternoon matinee (12 p.m., FOX Sports Carolinas HD, Hurricanes Radio Network). Following a game in Washington on Sunday, the Hurricanes return home to face the Dallas Stars in a nationally-televised game on Monday night (7:30 p.m., Versus HD, Hurricanes Radio Network).
