Charlotte Checkers‘CANES RECALL ZACH BOYCHUK FROM CHARLOTTE

Forward has seven points in 18 NHL games this season

RALEIGH, NCJim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has recalled forward Zach Boychuk from the Charlotte Checkers of the American Hockey League (AHL).

This marks the third recall this season for Boychuk, 21, who has scored four goals and earned three assists (7 points) in 18 NHL games this season with the Hurricanes. The Airdrie, Alb., native ranks tied for third among Checkers skaters this season with 39 points (15g, 24a) despite playing in just 33 of the team’s 49 games. Boychuk (5’10”, 185 lbs.) is in his second full professional season, and has scored seven goals and earned nine assists (16 points) in 51 career NHL games with the Hurricanes. Carolina drafted Boychuk in the first round, 14th overall, in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.

The Carolina Hurricanes travel to Toronto for a Thursday match up against the Maple Leafs at the Air Canada Centre (7 p.m., FOX Sports Carolinas HD, Hurricanes Radio Network) before returning to host the Atlanta Thrashers at the RBC Center on Saturday.
