THE CAPTAIN RETURNS TO DANBURY

Danbury WhalersThe President and General Manager of the Danbury Whalers, Herm Sorcher announced late Monday that Center, Igor Karlov has resigned with the team to return for the 2011-12 season.

Karlov, a native of Huntingdon Valley, Pennsylvania, played in all 47 of the Whalers games last season.

Karlov was named Whalers’ team captain and demonstrated his leadership abilities by topping the team in seven statistical categories games played(47), Goals (26), Assists (27), Points (53), Power Play Goals (6), and Power Play Assists (7) while also posting a team high with 160 shots on goal and was the winner of the William E. Barnes Danbury Whalers Most Valuable Player Award.

Consistency was Karlov’s calling card posting points in 32 of the 47 games and at the Danbury Ice Arena had a point in 24 of 29 (82%) games.  Other highlights include,  four multi-goal games and two four-point nights.

A professional for 80 games (EPHL, SPHL, FHL), the centerman has 41 goals and 47 assists for a better then a point per game average.

Karlov’s “Green Army” T-shirts sold out in less than two weeks.

On his return to Danbury, the 25-year old  said, “To wear the Captain’s C for this franchise and this city is a great honor.  It is with great pride that I will wear the Kelly Green again.”
