UPDATE (10-16-09): Tomas Zaborsky has played in his first game for his new club and had a Gordie Howe Hat Trick with a power play goal, an assist (on what proved to be the game winner) and a fight at the end of regulation.

Zaborsky told Howlings that he was shocked at how much skill and how much faster this game is than what he had seen in the AHL.

He said he took on the biggest defenseman on the opposing team and while he held his own he was happy the refs broke it up when they did.

What he was most excited about was being named the game's First Star for his efforts.

After being sent down to the ECHL’s Charlotte Checkers, the farm team for the Hartford Wolf Pack, Tomas Zaborsky has decided, after sorting through various offers, to instead join the Finnish Elite League.

Zaborsky contacted Howlings Tuesday afternoon from his home in Michigan and said that he is leaving tonight to play for Assat Pori. He expects, from what he’s been told, that he will be the team’s second line center. Zaborsky will play in his first contest for his new team this Friday night.

The soon-to-be 22 year old, 5’11” 181 pounder from Trenchin, Slovakia will remain property of the New York Rangers. Zaborsky told Howlings, that he was disappointed when he was informed that he was being sent down to Charlotte as he thought he had done enough to win a job in Hartford. He remains hopeful that he will get a chance to return and play with the Wolf Pack. “I am going over there to do my best and hope to be back in the US soon. I still want to play in the NHL .”
