Charlotte Checkers general manager and head coach Jeff Daniels announced today that the team has assigned forward Jared Staal to its ECHL affiliate, the Florida Everblades.

Staal, 20, skated in nine games with the Checkers, recording two penalty minutes. The 6-foot-4, 214-pound winger was a second-round pick of the Phoenix Coyotes in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft and was acquired by the Carolina Hurricanes on May 13, 2010.

The Checkers (9-7-3) are in action again Friday (7 p.m.) against the Adirondack Phantoms. Holiday packs are on sale now and include four games, a merchandise certificate and a puck for just $35. For more information, call 704-342-4423 or email tickets@gocheckers.com.
