THAT DIDN’T TAKE LONG…

GREENVILLE, SC The Greenville Road Warriors announced today their schedule for the 2011-12 ECHL season. The full promotional calendar will be released at a later date.

The Road Warriors will play their home opener on Friday, October 14 at 7:35 p.m. against the Wheeling Nailers. The Nailers were the Road Warriors’ opponent in the Eastern Conference semifinals of the 2011 Kelly Cup playoffs. The series went seven games, the only one in the 2011 playoffs to do so, but Greenville was upset in overtime of the final game at the BI-LO Center after a tying goal by Brendan Connolly with 23 seconds remaining in regulation.

Opening night will be the only visit Wheeling pays to Greenville this season, but Road Warriors fans will have plenty of chances to see teams from outside the South Division. Ten of Greenville’s 11 conference foes will visit the BI-LO Center including the expansion Chicago Express and the Toledo Walleye. The Walleye are coached by former Greenville Grrrowl goalie and assistant coach, and ECHL Hall of Fame-er, Nick Vitucci and will play three games in Greenville this season after not appearing here in 2010-11.

Road Warriors home games around the holidays will provide fans with ample opportunity to celebrate hockey-style. You could get spooked at Halloween (October 28 & 29 vs. Florida), help honor our nation’s heroes on Veterans’ Day (November 11 & 12 vs. South Carolina), deck the halls at Christmas (December 22 & 23 vs. Reading and December 27 vs. South Carolina), or revel in the luck of the Irish at Saint Patrick’s Day (March 18 vs. Cincinnati).
