MISSIAEN TO AHL, ROAD WARRIORS SIGN O’BRIEN

The Greenville Road Warriors announced today that goaltender Jason Missiaen has been reassigned by the New York Rangers to the Connecticut Whale of the American Hockey League. The Road Warriors also announced that they have signed goalie B.J. O’Brien to a standard contract.

O’Brien comes to the Road Warriors from the Louisiana IceGators of the Southern Professional Hockey League. O’Brien has split this season with Louisiana and the Augusta Riverhawks of the SPHL and the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees of the Central Hockey League. A rookie out of St. Norbert College, O’Brien is 12-9-3 on the season. The 6-0, 185-pound netminder is a two-time First-Team All-American at St. Norbert and was a part of two national championship teams. In 2008 he backed up for Kyle Jones, currently second in the ECHL in wins for Colorado, as the Green Knights won their first championship and then was the main man when St. Norbert won the title last spring. In his senior season, O’Brien was 22-2-1 and was 55-7-4 for his career.

Missiaen makes his second trip to Connecticut this season after backing up Cameron Talbot for three games from December 28, 2011 to January 1, 2012. Missiaen is 13-10-3 for the Road Warriors this season and has won each of his last four starts. The 6-8, 200-pound rookie from Chatham, Ontario is tied for second in the ECHL with three shutouts. A former fourth-round draft pick of the Montreal Canadiens, Missiaen was signed to an NHL contract by the Rangers last March.
