CRAWFORD: WOLF PACK WEEKLY: Dec 11-17, 2017

BY: Bob Crawford, Hartford Wolf Pack

HARTFORD, CT – The Wolf Pack (10-12-3-2, 25 pts., .463) are unbeaten in regulation in a team season-high five straight games (3-0-1-1), after posting two wins and a shootout loss in three games this past weekend.  On Friday night in Providence, the Wolf Pack got two goals from Cole Schneider and two assists from Anthony DeAngelo and took a 3-2 lead into the final minute of the third period.  The Bruins, though, tied the game with 39.9 seconds left in regulation and then won in a shootout.  The Wolf Pack went beyond regulation for a fourth straight time, tying a franchise record, Saturday at home, and this time found themselves on the right side of a shootout final, defeating Rochester by a score of 3-2.  Peter Holland led the way in that one, with his first two Wolf Pack goals and a shootout tally.  Then on Sunday against Springfield at the XL Center, Vinni Lettieri had his first multiple-goal game as a pro with two scores and added an assist, and Marek Mazanec won his Wolf Pack debut with 17 saves, in a 5-3 victory over the Thunderbirds.

This week:

The Wolf Pack are back at the XL Center on Friday night for a 7:15 PM game, hosting the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins on “’80’s Night”, and then travel to Springfield to renew acquaintances with Thunderbirds on Saturday night at 7:05.

Friday, December 15 vs. the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins (Pittsburgh) at XL Center, 7:15 PM

  • This is “’80’s Night” at the XL Center.  Fans are encouraged to come dressed in their best ‘80’s fashion and relive their favorite decade with ‘80’s throwback music and promotions.
  • At this game and all Wolf Pack Friday-night home games, fans can enjoy $1 hot dogs and $2 beers through the start of the second period, presented by Dave & Buster’s.
  • After losing only twice in regulation in their first 15 games (12-2-0-1), the Penguins (14-7-1-1, 30 pts., .652) have gone 2-5-1-0 in their last eight, falling to third place in the Atlantic Division.
  • Both of Wilkes-Barre/Scranton’s top two netminders, Casey DeSmith (9-2-1, 2.29, 92.4, 1 SHO) and Tristan Jarry (5 GP, 3-2-0, 3.18, 89.7) are on recall to parent-club Pittsburgh, leaving the AHL Penguins’ goaltending chores in the hands of rookie Sean Maguire (1-1-0, 1.54, 93.8 in 3 GP) and Anthony Peters (0-2-1, 5.01, 85.7 in 3 GP).
  • This is the second of six games on the year between the Wolf Pack and Penguins, and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton’s first visit of the season to Hartford.  In the season series opener October 21 in Wilkes-Barre, the Penguins scored a 3-2 shootout victory over the Wolf Pack.
  • Tickets for this and all 2017-18 Wolf Pack home games are on sale now at the Agera Energy Ticket Office at the XL Center, online at hartfordwolfpack.com and by phone at (877) 522-8499.  Tickets purchased in advance for kids 12 or younger are just $10 each, and all tickets will have a $2 day-of-game increase.

Saturday, December 16 at the Springfield Thunderbirds (Florida) at the MassMutual Center, 7:05 PM

  • This is the seventh time on the year that the Wolf Pack and Thunderbirds have seen each other, and the Wolf Pack squared the season series at three games apiece with their 5-3 win over their I-91 rivals Sunday at the XL Center.  The Wolf Pack have lost their last two visits to Springfield after winning the first.
  • Sunday’s defeat at the XL Center was the Thunderbirds’ fourth in their last five games, after they had won seven of their previous nine.  At 10-17-1-0 for 21 points and a .375 points percentage, Springfield enters the week four points behind the seventh-place Wolf Pack in the Atlantic Division.
  • Thunderbird goal-scoring leader Anthony Greco netted his ninth lamplighter of the season in Sunday’s game in Hartford, and Juho Lammikko took over the Thunderbird points lead in the season series (2-4-6) with a goal and an assist.
