BRANDON DUBINSKY SELECTED AS 2007-08 STEVEN MCDONALD AWARD WINNER
Rangers rookie honored with 20th annual Extra Effort award
The New York Rangers have announced that center Brandon Dubinsky has been selected as the winner of the 20th Annual 2007-08 Steven McDonald Award, voted by the fans as the player who performs “above and beyond the call of duty”. Since 1988, the award has been given annually to the player who fans believe plays with extra effort on the ice. Joining Steven McDonald for the presentation before the Rangers and Islanders contest was his wife Patti and son Connor. In November of 1988, New York City police officer Steven McDonald was shot and injured in the line of duty.
On behalf of the organization, Rangers legend Adam Graves presented the McDonald family with a check for $25,000 to the Steven McDonald Foundation, who has won the award five times, more than any other Ranger.
Dubinsky, 21, has recorded 14 goals and 26 assists for 40 points in 80 games. He is currently in seventh place among rookies in the NHL in points this season. Dubinsky was named Most Valuable Player of the 2008 NHL Young Stars game, notching two goals.
