D-STRENGTHENED

610xThe entire NY Rangers organziation is undergoing a facelift from top to bottom. There’ve been more “turnover” in the Rangers organziation than at a Sprinkles Bakery in NY.

Today the Pack added another Defenseman to the mix with the signing of second year pro Chris Murray. Murray played last season with the Albany River Rats.

The Pack’s training camp this season is going to be especially competitive since it looks like, as of today’s date anyway, that the entire Rangers roster, for all intents and purposes, is set.

Here is the official release:

WOLF PACK SIGN DEFENSEMAN CHRIS MURRAY

Hartford Wolf Pack general manager Jim Schoenfeld announced today that the Wolf Pack has signed defenseman Chris Murray to an American Hockey League contract.

A second-year pro, Murray played 13 AHL games last season with the Albany River Rats. He contributed a goal and three assists for four points, amassed 15 penalty minutes and was a +5 in those 13 contests. The 6-2, 190-pound Dover, MA native also saw AHL action in two games with Springfield (no points or penalty minutes) and Lake Erie (one game, two PIM). Murray spent most of his rookie pro campaign in the ECHL with the Phoenix RoadRunners, for whom he chipped in one goal and 13 assists for 14 points, and logged 122 minutes in penalties. That PIM total tied him for second among RoadRunner defensemen, and for third-most overall on the club.

Prior to turning pro, Murray, 23, played four seasons at the University of New Hampshire. In 112 career games with the Wildcats, he registered 11 goals and 24 assists for 35 points, as well as 191 penalty minutes. In his Senior year, 2006-07, Murray led U.N.H. defensemen in goals, finished second among team blueliners in points, and led the entire team in PIM, with totals of 9-13-22 and 84 PIM in 39 games. Following the conclusion of his college tenure, Murray gained his first pro experience by suiting up for one 2006-07 AHL game with the Peoria Rivermen.
