Checkers Netminder Won League-High 10 Games In March

The ECHL announced today that Checkers netminder Ryan Munce has been named the ECHL Goaltender of the Month for March.

The Mississauga, Ontario native went 10-2-1 with a goals-against average of 2.54 and a save percentage of .922 to help the Checkers to a 12-2-1 record in March. His solid play, which included a season-high seven-game win streak and 10 wins in his last 11 starts, catapulted the Checkers into first place in the American Conference heading into the playoffs.

In 44 games with Charlotte this season, Munce posted a 26-14-3 record with one shutout, a 2.77 goals-against average and a .913 save percentage.

He was also named the ECHL Goaltender of the Week for the week of Dec. 7-13, 2009.

Munce has played five seasons in the ECHL with Bakersfield, Charlotte, Johnstown, Mississippi and Reading and has a career record of 110-81-18 with seven shutouts, a goals-against average of 2.92 and a save percentage of .914.
In 2008-09, while playing for the now-defunct Mississippi Sea Wolves, he led the ECHL in games played (54), minutes (3,219), shots against (2,024), saves (1,852) and shootout wins (6).

Before turning pro, Munce tended goal for three seasons for the Ontario Hockey League’s Sarnia Sting. He was a third-round pick of the Los Angeles Kings in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft and won a gold medal with Team Canada at the 2003 World Under-18 Championships.
