ROAD WARRIORS GEARING UP TO “STOP POLIO COLD”
GREENVILLE, SC – For one night Greenville’s professional hockey team will go from being Road Warriors to “Rotary” Warriors by teaming up with Rotary Club of Greenville for the inaugural “Stop Polio Cold” game.
The purpose of “Stop Polio Cold” is to raise money, and awareness, in support of Rotary’s “End Polio Now” campaign which aims to eradicate polio worldwide. The “End Polio Now” campaign received $355 million in challenge grants by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation with the challenge falling on Rotary to match Gates’ donation with $200 million in funds. The Rotary Club of Greenville’s goal is to contribute $30,000 towards that $200 million total in order to help eradicate polio from the world. Over the summer the Road Warriors and Rotary Club of Greenville got together and began brainstorming ways to work together and help Rotary reach its goal. What they came up with was “Stop Polio Cold.”
Highlighting the night are the specialty jerseys that the Road Warriors will wear for just that night. The sweaters are colored red and gold, which are the colors of the “End Polio Now” campaign, feature the “Stop Polio Cold” slogan on the front of the jersey beside the Rotary International logo, and feature the Road Warriors’ secondary logo on one shoulder. The jerseys will be auctioned off live immediately following the Road Warriors game and a portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Rotary Club of Greenville in support of “End Polio Now.” Fans wishing to bid on jerseys will be seated in Section 113 for the auction and players will be brought out in numerical order from lowest to highest. Each winning bidder will get to take their jersey home with them from the game, as well as have their photo taken with the player whose jersey they won.
To aide in the fundraising efforts of the night, Rotary of Greenville will be working the chuck-a-puck tables at the game and $1 from each chuck-a-puck will be contributed to the cause. Additionally, the Road Warriors will donate $1 from every full-value/face-value walk up ticket sold to Rotary of Greenville. So simply by coming out and attending the game you can help in the cause. Rotary of Greenville has also been selling fundraising tickets to this game since mid-December and has sold nearly 600 tickets to the game with portions of those sales going directly to the “End Polio Now” campaign.
For information on how you can purchase tickets to the game, or for questions regarding the jersey auction, please call a Road Warriors sales representative at 864-674-PUCK.
