NEW YORK RANGERS POST-GAME NOTES
Eastern Conference Quarterfinals – Game Five
New York Rangers at Washington Capitals, April 23, 2011
Team Notes:
– The Rangers were defeated by the Washington Capitals, 3-1, today at Verizon Center, in Game Five of their Eastern Conference Quarterfinal match-up. The Capitals won the series 4-1.
– New York is now 198-216-8 all-time in 422 playoff contests, including a 88-133-6 record on the road. The Rangers are 15-19 all-time in 34 postseason contests vs. Washington.
– The Blueshirts have posted a 23-31 record all-time in Game Fives of playoff series, including a 17-24 mark on the road.
Player Notes:
– Wojtek Wolski notched the Rangers’ lone goal at 19:28 of the third period and led all skaters with six shots on goal in 18:23 of ice time. The goal was his first in the playoffs as a Ranger. Wolski finished the playoffs tied for the team lead in scoring with three points and two assists.
– Bryan McCabe tallied the primary assist on Wolski’s third period goal and was credited with three blocked shots in 18:36 of ice time. The assist is his first even strength point recorded as a Ranger since being acquired from Florida on Feb. 26. McCabe finished the playoffs tied for the team lead with two assists, and third in scoring with two points.
– Henrik Lundqvist made 24 saves in net to finish his playoff campaign with a 1-4 record, along with a 2.25 goals against average and a .917 save percentage in five games. His 2.25 goals against average ranks sixth in the NHL, while his .917 save percentage ranks seventh in the league. Lundqvist appeared in each of the Rangers’ final 31 games dating back to Feb. 11 at Atlanta, and has started in each of the Rangers’ last 34 playoff contests.
– Sean Avery registered one assist, and has now recorded three assists in 10 career playoff contests vs. Washington.
– Marc Staal was credited with a game-high, six blocked shots and logged a team-high, 22:51 of ice time. He finished the playoffs with a team-high, 28:01 of ice time per game (currently ranked second in the NHL), and ranked second on the Rangers with 15 blocked shots.
– Brian Boyle registered five shots on goal and logged 19:27 of ice time. He finished the playoffs ranked first on the team with 25 shots on goal, and is currently ranked third in the NHL in shots.
– Brandon Dubinsky led the Rangers in playoff scoring with three points and two goals, and he currently leads all NHL forwards with 24:56 of ice time. During the regular season, Dubinsky led the Rangers with career-highs in points (54), goals (24), assists(30), road points (26), and avg. ice time among forwards (20:13).
