Danbury Whalers president and general manager, Herm Sorcher announced are the resigning of forward/defenseman Lynn Beedle for the 2011-12 hockey season.
Beedle, a native of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, played in 31 games tallying three goals and five assists while playing a key role for the Whalers last season centering the team’s checking line. His versatility to play both up front and on the blue line provided the team far greater lineup flexibility when late season injuries became an issue.
A graduate of Norwich University in Northfield, Vermont, Beedle was a member of two National Championship teams while playing for the Cadets in 2000 & 2003. Beedle has also seen 15 games of action in the ECHL (AA) with the Trenton Titans, now the Trenton Devils.
Beedle’s season highlights included a game winner against 1000 Islands on Dec. 18, a two-game stretch (Feb. 5 – Feb. 10) where he had a goal, an assist, and was +4.
While not known for his fisticuffs, his one scrap during the regular season, the 5’11, 170-pounder scored a decision over the Rome Frenzi’s Sam Ward, who outweighed Beedle by 25 pounds.
Beedle also scored the game winner in Game Two at New York and helped to hold the Aviators top player, Matt Puntureri (FHL’s 3rd leading scorer) scoreless with a minus-3 for the game.
Quite often in sports, a person’s worth is evaluated in what they do in the game and perspective is lost in terms of what it all means. During the player question and answer period at the Danbury Whalers Holiday Party, when asked about his journey to Danbury and challenges he faced along the way, Beedle moved the hearts of all in attendance as he shared his battle and fight with cancer.
“There is no place I’d rather be,” Beedle said of his returning to Danbury. “I am a lucky man to be able to play hockey in this city for these fans.”
Head Coach, Phil Esposito is thrilled to have his most versatile player returning. “There is always a place on a hockey team for a player like Lynn Beedle. He leads the league in a statistical category…no one has more character then this guy.”
