NEW YORK RANGERS PROSPECT REPORT: APRIL 30
- Yegor Rykov established a single-game Russian leagues record by logging 61:19 of ice time while helping SKA-Neva in the Supreme Hockey League (VHL) win Game 5 of the VHL Final in the sixth overtime against Dinamo St. Petersburg on Apr. 25. Rykov, who was acquired by the Rangers in a trade with New Jersey on Feb. 22, skated in five playoff games over a seven-day span from Apr. 21 – Apr. 27, playing four games with SKA-Neva in the VHL and one contest with SKA-1946 in the Junior Hockey League (MHL). He logged at least 22:00 of ice time in all four VHL contests over the seven-day span. The 21-year-old registered 14 points (two goals, 12 assists) and a plus-10 rating in 53 regular season games with SKA in 2017-18, and he established KHL career-highs in games played, goals, assists, points, and plus/minus rating this past season. Rykov (who didn’t turn 21 years old until Apr. 14 of this year and following the conclusion of the KHL season) played in more KHL games than any other player 20 years old or younger in 2017-18, and he also recorded more assists and points than any other KHL defenseman 20 years old or younger during the season.
- Lias Andersson represented Sweden at the Sweden Hockey Games as part of the Euro Hockey Tour (EHT) during the past week. The Rangers’ first-round pick (seventh overall) in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft played in three contests with Sweden during the tournament, registering one assist and posting a plus-two rating while skating on the same line as current Ranger Mika Zibanejad. In addition, Andersson was named to Sweden’s roster for the 2018 IIHF World Championship (along with Zibanejad), which will begin on May 4. He is one of two players younger than 20 years old who was named to Sweden’s initial roster for the tournament. Andersson will represent Sweden at the IIHF World Championship for the first time in his career. The Smogen, Sweden, native has previously represented his country in several tournaments, earning a silver medal while serving as Sweden’s captain at the 2018 IIHF World Junior Championship. Andersson also captured a silver medal while representing Sweden at the 2016 IIHF World U18 Championship.
- Filip Chytil represented the Czech Republic at the Sweden Hockey Games as part of the Euro Hockey Tour (EHT) during the past week. The Rangers’ first-round pick (21st overall) in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft skated in three games with the Czech Republic in the tournament and registered two points (one goal, one assist) on Apr. 29 against Russia. Chytil tied for the team lead in goals (one), assists (one), and points (two), and led the Czech Republic in shots on goal (eight) in the three games. In addition, Chytil was named to the Czech Republic’s roster for the 2018 IIHF World Championship. He is one of two players younger than 19 years old who was named to the Czech Republic’s initial roster for the tournament. Chytil will be representing his country in the IIHF World Championship for the first time in his career. The Kromeriz, Czech Republic, native has previously played in several international tournaments, including the 2018 IIHF World Junior Championship and the 2017 IIHF World U18 Championship.
- Igor Shesterkin represented Russia at the Sweden Hockey Games as part of the Euro Hockey Tour (EHT) during the past week, where he was teammates with current Ranger Pavel Buchnevich. The Rangers’ fourth-round pick (118th overall) in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft stopped 22 of 24 shots he faced and earned a win in his only appearance of the tournament on Apr. 29 against the Czech Republic.
- Tim Gettinger tallied three points (two goals, one assist) in four games during the past week, and he registered the game-winning goal in Game 5 of the OHL’s Western Conference Final on Apr. 27 against Kitchener. The Rangers’ fifth-round pick (141st overall) in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft has recorded 16 points (four goals, 12 assists) and a plus-seven rating in 17 playoff contests with Sault Ste. Marie this year. Gettinger has established OHL playoff career-highs in games played, assists, and points, and has tied his OHL playoff career-high in goals thus far in the 2018 Playoffs. He is tied for the team lead in game-winning goals (two), ranks third on Sault Ste. Marie in shots on goal (62), is tied for third in assists, ranks fourth in plus/minus rating, and is tied for fourth in points in the playoffs this year. Sault Ste. Marie plays Game 7 of the OHL’s Western Conference Final on Apr. 30.
