CANTLON: HUSKA TO TURN PRO

HARTFORD, CT – A New York Rangers organizational source confirmed to Cantlon’s Corner that University of Connecticut goalie, Adam Huska, will forgo his senior season and sign an ATO deal with the Blueshirts.

Huska will make his professional debut Sunday against the Hershey Bears at the XL Center. It will be a simple relocation for Huska as he will just march his sticks and pads about 25 feet across the hallway.

Huska, currently in his junior year at UConn, will become the sixth netminder for Hartford in the 2018-19 season. The Rangers’ 2015 7th round pick (184th overall) played his junior hockey for the Green Bay Gamblers (USHL).

Huska played just two games for UCONN over the last six weeks due to the hot play of Tomas Vomacka.

A Slovakian, Huska last played against Providence College on February 26th. His record this season is a deceiving 5-13-2 with a 3.34 GAA and .896 save percentage in 1,202:44 minutes of action. It’s deceiving because he has been playing behind a very young team with 12 freshmen.

One his highlight starts was against Yale on New Year’s Eve Day where he made 39 saves including a spectacular skate blade save with stacked pads off a two-on-one with the shot coming from Mitchell Smith of the Bulldogs.

Huska career stats with UCONN consisted of 69 career games. He sports a 2.90 GAA, a record 20-38-8 in just under 4,000 minutes played. He also had two career shutouts.
