SHELLEY: PECARARO SHINES IN RABBITS WIN

BY: Mark Shelley, Greenville Swamp Rabbits

CINCINNATI, O.H. – A two-goal night from Liam Pecararo was not enough to lift the Greenville Swamp Rabbits over the Cincinnati Cyclones, as they fell 3-2 in the shootout at Heritage Bank Center in Cincinnati.

The Cyclones took the 1-0 lead at the 7:07 mark of the first period after Matt McLeod scored his ninth of the season. The Swamp Rabbits tied the game at 1-1 with an in-tight, backhand goal by Liam Pecararo, his 11th of the season. Pecararo’s goal extended his point streak to 11 consecutive games.

Greenville took the lead early in the second period as Pecararo scored his second of the game at 1:24 after the Swamp Rabbits were rewarded a power-play.

Early in the third, Cincinnati’s Johnny Coughlin scored his fourth of the season to tie the game at 2-2, eventually sending the game to overtime.

A SCORELESS OT

After a scoreless overtime, the Cyclones would secure the victory in the shootout, as Patrick Polino scored the lone goal for either side.

With the loss, the Swamp Rabbits fall to 9-11-3-2 while the Icemen improve to 17-11-1-0 on the season.

Greenville returns home to Bon Secours Wellness Arena on Saturday, January 1, to welcome 2022 against the Orlando Solar Bears at 7:05 p.m.
