NEWINGTON, CT – Brandon Johnson, the Owner and President of the Connecticut Chiefs Junior and Youth hockey organization, announced that former Hartford Whaler Yvon “Ike” Corriveau will conduct several youth hockey camps at Newington Arena beginning immediately.
Johnson said that he and Corriveau have been coaching junior and Youth hockey together for more than ten years. Corriveau is also the only former NHL player working full-time as a Director of Coaching for youth hockey in the area.
The Elite Development Sessions run on Tuesday nights through June 14th. The sessions consist of working on stick skills and power skating and incorporating small area game concepts to bring what the players have learned and put them into action. Learn more HERE.
A “Triple Threat Camp will follow those sessions.” The camp will run from June 20-23 and teach players the skills to effectively dominate on both sides of the puck. Players also learn the battling techniques necessary to gain or retain the puck. Learn more HERE.
Two concurrent camps will run after that. One is called Sniper Camp, and the other is Defense Camp. They will run July 25-28
Does your child look like a future Connor McDavid, Alex Ovechkin, or Sidney Crosby? If they do, your son or daughter should take part in Sniper Camp. Under Corriveau’s tutelage, players will learn the skills to generate quality scoring chances effectively. In other words, they’ll learn to be top goal scorers. Learn more HERE.
If your child protects their goaltender like a younger version of Adam Fox, Roman Josi, Victor Hedman, or Cale Makar, then you’ll want to send them to Defense Camp. Once there, participants will be instructed in the skills to effectively play both sides of the puck and become better defensemen. Learn more HERE.
The players heading off to Prep School, Junior, or College will need to get ready to play and arrive in shape. There will be two sessions. The first will run from August 15-18, and the second will take place from August 22-25. In addition to Corriveau, participants will be taught by the Connecticut Chiefs EHL Coach, Greg Heffernan, and there will be a guest college coach on the ice each day. Learn more HERE.
Lastly, as the regular season approaches for youth and High School players, they’ll need to get back in game shape. They’ll need to participate in the Pre-Season Sweat Camp to do that. This camp will be for players ages 6-16 and include both on-and-off ice work. Learn more HERE.
“During the Covid pandemic, players had limits on their ice time and playing time,” Johnson said. “Now that the bulk of the pandemic is behind us, players will need to spend more time on the ice and get more work in if they’re to fulfill their hockey ambitions and dreams,” Johnson said.
