CHARLOTTE, NC – The Hartford Wolf Pack dropped their fifth straight game on Saturday night, 4-2 to the Charlotte Checkers at Bojangles Coliseum.
Two early goals from the home side had the Wolf Pack in a hole just 6:37 into the hockey game.
Brett Chorske broke the ice 1:07 into the game when a Gracyn Sawchyn bid from the right-wing side pinballed around and ended up behind Gabriel Carriere. Chorske was in the right place at the right time and tucked home his first goal of the season to make it 1-0.
Tobias Björnfot extended the lead to 2-0 at 6:37, blasting a shot through traffic from the left-wing point. Assisted by Angus Crookshank and Nathan Bastian, the goal was his first of the season.
Jaroslav Chmelař stopped the bleeding and got the Wolf Pack on the board at 8:45, scoring his first goal of the season in just his second outing. On the first power play of the night, Glenn Gawdin took a pass at the right-wing point and fired a shot toward the net.
Chmelař provided the fly-by, deflecting the puck home to make it 2-1.
Liam Greentree tied the game with the Wolf Pack’s second power-play goal at 3:48 into the middle stanza. Gawdin worked into the right-wing circle and sent a pass to Greentree’s stick. The rookie forward tipped the puck off Cooper Black, tying the game 2-2.
Jack Devine restored the lead for the Checkers at 10:44, notching his third goal of the campaign. Devine intercepted a clearing attempt on the left wing, worked to the top of the circle, then ripped a shot over Carriere’s left shoulder to make it 3-2.
Crookshank doubled the lead to 4-2 at 8:13 into the third period, scoring on a power play. Cole Schwindt fired a shot from the right-wing circle that Carriere denied, but Crookshank found the rebound and lifted it over the netminder for his first goal as a Checker.
The Wolf Pack pushed hard in the final period but couldn’t get any closer on the scoreboard. The club fired 15 shots on net in the final frame, bringing the season-high to 35.
