Sometimes in life you learn new things in the most bizarre ways. Take for example something that Howlings learned just recently.
On September 3rd, we did our own Top 10 list of the “Top Ten Suggestions For Travis Brower To Improve the Pack Shop…”
At Number Six, we wrote, “New rental headphones that will pick up Bob Crawford’s terrific broadcasts in the arena…hey wait, that’s not funny that’s actually a pretty cool idea…” We thought that was quite the funny line and a pretty nifty idea to boot. Here in the “Howlings Central Newsroom” we nearly pulled a muscle patting ourselves on the back for coming up with such a good idea.
There was only one problem though. The team already thought of it. But to make matters worse, not only had they already thought of it, but they’ve been doing it for the past eight years. To quote Maxwell Smart, “MISSED IT by that much…”
The voice of the Wolf Pack, Bob Crawford, emailed Howlings saying that, “In the 1999-2000 season, an engineer from one of the radio stations we worked with set us up with a little low-power FM transmitter that sits up in the radio booth and works with a small plastic antenna that is affixed to one of the metal beams,” he wrote. “I plug the transmitter directly into my mixer, so fans get a “clean” feed of the audio from the broadcast booth, before it goes to the radio station. The transmitter beams the broadcast into the building at 95.3 FM.”
As you make your plans and buy your tickets to see the Pack live this coming season, what better way to supplement the entire experience by bringing along a radio and headset to listen in on Crawford’s first class broadcasts.
You learn something new each day…
