CHECKERS ANNOUNCE PROMOTIONAL CALENDAR
Bobblehead giveaway and special theme nights highlight home schedule
The Charlotte Checkers announced today the promotional schedule for the team’s inaugural American Hockey League season, complete with theme nights, promotions and giveaways which emphasize the entertainment value of Checkers games.
Highlights for 2010-11 include the Checkers’ inaugural AHL home opener, “Pink in the Rink”, “Race Night” and “Salute to Heroes” as well as past favorites such as “Redneck Night” and “80s Night”.
Opening night is set for Friday, Oct. 15 and the first 6,500 fans will receive a Checkers alternate-logo flag courtesy of Time Warner Cable as part of a season-long team pride program. Magnet schedules will also be given out to the first 7,000 fans in attendance.
Additional giveaways throughout the season will include a limited edition bobblehead, Checkers backpack, t-shirt, trucker hat, winter hat and Checkers coffee mug.
New for this season will be “Black Out” games, presented by Amtrak, where the Checkers will don specialty alternate-logo black jerseys. The jerseys will be used eight times throughout the season and auctioned off live on Friday, Apr. 8. Also new, are “Guaranteed Win Nights” where fans can sign up for “win insurance” and receive a complimentary ticket, courtesy of State Farm, should the Checkers lose.
Back by popular demand this season will be the second annual “As Seen On TV Night” with special TeleBrands product giveaways and “Pooch Party”, in which fans are once again encouraged to bring their four-legged friends to the game. Additionally, “Teddy Bear Toss” will take place on Friday, Dec. 10 when the Checkers will appropriately play host to the Hershey Bears. The teddy bears will then be distributed by players during the holidays to Presbyterian Children’s Hospital.
“Salute to Heroes”, presented by AutoTrader.com, will take place on Saturday, Apr. 9 and will involve a charitable hockey game following the Checkers game featuring local police, sheriff, fire and medic representatives. Last year’s post-Checkers-game CMPD/MCSO vs. CFD/MEDIC match had nearly 3,500 attendees.
All Sunday games will feature “Coke Family Four Packs” where fans can purchase four tickets, four hot dogs and four Cokes for only $58 plus fees. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday games throughout the season will be dubbed “Wet Your Whistle Weekdays” and will feature discounted 12oz. Bud Lights.

The Checkers’ home opener is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 15 at Time Warner Cable Arena.
