‘CANES ASSIGN ZACH BOYCHUK TO CHARLOTTE
Forward had points in each of two games during second recall of the season
RALEIGH, NC – Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has reassigned forward Zach Boychuk to the Charlotte Checkers of the American Hockey League (AHL).
This concludes the second NHL stint this season for Boychuk, 21, who earned points in each of his two games during the recall (1g, 1a). Boychuk has now totaled four goals and three assists (7 points) in 18 games for Carolina this season. The Airdrie, Alb., native ranked tied for second among Checkers skaters with 39 points (15g, 24a) at the time of the recall, despite playing in just 31 of the team’s 46 games. Boychuk (5’10”, 185 lbs.) is in his second full professional season, and has scored seven goals and earned nine assists (16 points) in 51 career NHL games with the Hurricanes. Carolina drafted Boychuk in the first round, 14th overall, in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.
The Carolina Hurricanes will host the Boston Bruins on Tuesday at the RBC Center (7 p.m., FOX Sports Carolinas HD, Hurricanes Radio Network) in the team’s first game following the 2011 NHL All-Star Weekend.
