HURRICANES ASSIGN BOWMAN TO CHARLOTTE
Forward will join Checkers for AHL postseason
RALEIGH, NC – Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has reassigned forward Drayson Bowman to the Charlotte Checkers of the American Hockey League (AHL). Bowman will join the Checkers for the AHL’s Calder Cup Playoffs as they open their East Division Semifinal series against the Hershey Bears on Thursday at the Giant Center in Hershey, PA.
Bowman, 22, finished the 2010-11 regular season with the Hurricanes, playing in the team’s final 15 games following his March 10 recall from Charlotte. Bowman, who was born in Grand Rapids, MI, but raised in Littleton, CO, scored 12 goals and earned 18 assists (30 points) in 51 regular-season games this season with the Checkers. In two professional seasons, he has played in 107 AHL regular-season games with Carolina’s top minor-league affiliates, scoring 29 goals and earning 33 assists (62 points). Bowman (6’1”, 190 lbs.) made his NHL debut with the Hurricanes on Jan. 16, 2010, and has scored two goals and earned one assist in 32 career NHL games. The Hurricanes drafted Bowman in the third round, 72nd overall, in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.
