THREE OF A KIND A GOOD HAND FOR GREENVILLE

GREENVILLE, SC The Greenville Road Warriors announced today that they have signed returning forwards Connor Shields and Brandon Wong, and that they have added newcomer Brett Robinson.

Shields, 27, comes back to Greenville for his third season of professional hockey. The Dartmouth College graduate played 55 games for the Road Warriors last season and posted 47 points (16G, 31A). His point total was good for sixth most on the team despite missing the final five weeks of the season after a call up to the Milwaukee Admirals of the American Hockey League. With the Admirals, Shields netted a goal and an assist in 14 games. For his career, Shields has 109 points (44G, 65A) in 125 ECHL games. He was an All-Star as a rookie in 2009-10 and led the Johnstown Chiefs for that campaign with 62 points (28G, 34A) in 70 games.

Wong, 24, has signed with Greenville after splitting last season between Greenville and the Road Warriors’ AHL affiliate, the Connecticut Whale. A 5-10, 185-pound forward, Wong signed with Connecticut after four years at Quinnipiac University and played six games with the Whale before being loaned to the Road Warriors. He scored the first hat trick in Road Warriors history on January 14, 2011 against the Gwinnett Gladiators as part of a rookie season that saw him net 46 points (21G, 25A) in 64 games. The 21 goals Wong scored were the sixth most among ECHL rookies in 2010-11. He also skated in 10 playoff games for the Road Warriors and produced four points (2G, 2A).

Robinson, 26, joins the Road Warriors after two seasons with the Cincinnati Cyclones. After a 34-point regular season (15G, 19A) as a rookie in 2009-10, Robinson notched nine goals in 23 playoff games. The ninth came in front of over 13,000 people at U.S. Bank Arena in Game 5 of the Kelly Cup Final against Idaho and proved to be the game winning goal as the Cyclones captured their second Kelly Cup in three years. Last season, Robinson recorded 16 points (6G, 10A) in 23 games before an injury in December forced him to miss the remainder of the season. The 5-11, 190-pound forward hails from Alton, Ontario and played his college hockey at Mercyhurst College. He earned 82 points (26G, 56A) in 144 career games with the Lakers.

“All three of these players are extremely dynamic offensively and are big additions to our club. They also have character through the roof and will help build a great atmosphere in the dressing room,” said Road Warriors head coach Dean Stork.
