Tonight the Greenville Road Warriors get their second crack at the division-leading Gwinnett Gladiators in as many nights as they travel to the Arena at Gwinnett Center for their fifth of six straight road games.
The Road Warriors (26-17-2, 54 pts.) visit Gwinnett (24-12-10, 58 pts.) today for the 11th of 17 meetings this season between the clubs. Fans can follow the action by watching live on America One or listening at Greenvilleroadwarriors.com. The Road Warriors are 6-4-0 this season against the Gladiators and 16-11-0 overall in their history against Gwinnett. After splitting a pair of back-to-back games with Gwinnett in Duluth in mid-October, the Road Warriors have found the sledding much tougher on the road against Gwinnett and have lost three straight there. Gwinnett’s defense has been largely responsible for the Road Warriors’ defeats as it has limited Greenville to an average of 1.25 goals per game in the Gladiators’ four victories on home ice. Greenville scored four goals in its lone victory in Duluth on October 22.
Who: Greenville Road Warriors at Gwinnett Gladiators
What: Away Game #24, Season Game #46
When: 7:05 p.m.
Where: Arena at Gwinnett Center, 6400 Sugarloaf Parkway, Duluth, GA 30097
NOTEWORTHY:
Justin Bowers‘ 28 points (10G, 18A) in January nearly doubled his point production from October through December (29 points – 4G, 25A). He has 15 points (6G, 9A) in his last six games.
Sean Berkstresser recorded his 100th ECHL point with his second assist in Greenville’s 6-3 win at FLA on 1/25/12.
Greenville’s 52 third period goals are the second most of any team in the ECHL and its 42 goals allowed are the seventh fewest. The +10 differential is fourth best. Gwinnett is third (+14).
Last night’s game was the first since Jan. 6 (L 4-6) at Kalamazoo in which Greenville gave up more than one power play goal. Road Warriors were 8-4-0 over that span.
In his first six games back from the AHL (Jan. 6 to Jan. 14) Jeff Prough recorded two assists. In the eight games since (Jan. 16 to Jan. 28) he has put up 12 points (3G, 9A).
