Second Annual Education Days Set for November 1 & 15
BY: Brian Tosti, Greenville Swamp Rabbits
Greenville, SC – The Greenville Swamp Rabbits, proud ECHL affiliate of the New York Rangers and the AHL’s Hartford Wolf Pack, are pleased to announce the continuation of their education initiatives and partnership with a variety of Upstate school districts by hosting the team’s second annual Elementary Education Day and Middle School STEM Day games. Last season, the Swamp Rabbits launched the organization’s first Elementary School Education Day and followed that initiative with a Middle School STEM Day in March. Nearly 10,000 students and faculty spanning 50 different schools attended the morning games.
This season the Swamp Rabbits will entertain and educate elementary school students on Wednesday, Nov. 1 at 10:30 a.m. as the team takes on the Kansas City Mavericks for the first time in franchise history. On Wednesday, Nov. 15 at 10:30 a.m., the Middle School Students are invited to join the Swamp Rabbits as the team takes the ice against the Atlanta Gladiators. All education services are invited to participate in this offer, including home school and private school programs.
Local organizations will once again line the concourse at both games, featuring different educational experiments and activities. The Roper Mountain Science Center will be returning as a partner, featuring liquid nitrogen and dry ice demonstrations. The Greenville Zoo will once again be bringing animals to the arena for classification exercises, and the Youth Aviators will teach students the technical aspects of remote controlled drones. Also rejoining the education initiative is Greenville Soil and Water Conservation to teach the importance of recycling and harmful effects of pollution in The Upstate. A variety of additional organizations is planning to be on hand for these special games this season as well.
As part of the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) initiative, the Swamp Rabbits have also partnered with EVERFI. Through Greenville’s NHL affiliation with the New York Rangers, EVERFI is offering the Future Goals – Hockey Scholar Program to Grades 4 to 7. The Hockey Scholar online course provides students with an in depth look at STEM education as it pertains to the sport of hockey. Video segments involving the program will also be played during the intermissions at the games.
If you or your organization would like to become involved in the educational activities or demonstrations please contact James Kalinowski, Community Engagement Coordinator, at (864) 250-4803 or jkalinowski@swamprabbits.com.
Doors will open at the Bon Secours Wellness Arena at 9 a.m. for both games and students are encouraged to tour the concourse and interact with the different organizations and experiments.
As a special offer to the local area schools, tickets may be purchased through the program for $8. For every ten students attending, a faculty member will receive a free chaperone ticket. Extra faculty and parents wishing to attend the game may also purchase tickets for $8 in advance. $8 tickets will NOT be available for purchase at the Bon Secours Wellness Arena Box Office. Students are also permitted to bring their own bagged lunch to the game or purchase a boxed lunch option for an additional cost. Lunch orders must be submitted at least a week before the game.
For a more in depth look at each game, please follow links to the specific games. To seek information on enrollment in the programs, fill out the form on either page. A Swamp Rabbits representative will contact you with more information.
