Greenville, SC –The Greenville Swamp Rabbits announced today that forward Alex Globe has signed with the organization for the upcoming season. The centerman is entering his third year in professional hockey, logging each of the last two seasons with the Toledo Walleye and Quad City Mallards.
Last season Globke, 24, played a team leading 70 games with the Mallards. His 36points (12G, 24A) were fourth best on the roster including a team leading three shorthanded goals. The 6-foot-3, 206-pound skater played an additional 29 games as a rookie with the Walleye in 2016-17. In his debut season, he notched five goals and added 12 assists for 17 points.
“I just felt that I was being lead to Greenville because I felt that’s where God was calling me,” said Globke. “The situation is much different than other teams in the league with a new coach, owner, and a lot of new faces. I enjoy the challenge of being a part of an organization that exceeds expectations, and hopefully as a team we are able to bring a championship to Greenville.”
“As a team, there will be a lot of new faces and changes which most fans already have seen. I’m hoping to see our team grow into one unit and come together to put a championship run together,” he continued. “I have only heard great things about the city. The beautiful southern warmth and hospitality, great arena, top tier facilities, and not to mention a great fan base which I’ve heard from a couple players on last years team.”
Before turning pro, the Waterford, Michigan native played three seasons at Lake Superior State University. In 100 NCAA games, Globke collected 49 points (21G, 28A) and led the team in scoring as a freshman. In his first collegiate season, the center notched 31 points (12G, 19A) in 36 games. Prior to his enrollment with the Lakers, he tallied 68 points (24G, 44A) in 60 games with the Carleton Place Canadians.
“Alex is a complete player who has size and gives us depth at the center position,” said head coach Kevin Kerr. “We are looking for him to be an energy player for our club and be responsible in the defensive zone. In addition, he has shown he can be a great scoring threat, making him a critical 2-way forward. We want to welcome Alex to the Swamp Rabbits and are very excited for him to contribute on this team.”
Globke is the sixth player to sign with the Swamp Rabbits this month, joining defenseman JC Brassard and forwards Timmy Moore, Will Merchant, JT Henke and Johno May. As the offseason continues, stay tuned to SwampRabbits.com for a full updated list of players to sign for the upcoming season.
