BY: Michael Keeley, Maine Mariners
PORTLAND, ME – February 7, 2019 – The Mariners and Hartford Wolf Pack (AHL) announced on Thursday that goaltender Brandon Halverson has been recalled for the second time this season. Exactly one month ago, the star net-minder was recalled to the Wolf Pack and started one game before being returned to Maine.
On January 11th, Halverson started for the Wolf Pack and allowed five goals on 34 shots in a 6-3 loss to the Providence Bruins. Following his reassignment to Maine on January 14th, he made 79 saves on 80 shots in a two-game span: a 2-0 loss to Newfoundland on January 16th and a 1-0 win over Manchester on January 18th. The shutout was the first in Mariners franchise history. Halverson currently holds a 15-13-0-1 record for the Mariners with a 2.67 GAA and a .924 SV%. He ranks fourth in the ECHL in saves (950) and fifth in minutes played (1750).
Halverson played regularly for the Wolf Pack two seasons ago when he appeared in 26 games for Hartford, with a 9-16-0 record, a 3.45 GAA and a .887 SV%. Last season, Halverson played primarily in the ECHL with Greenville (24 games), but also played 5 games in Hartford and made his NHL debut for the Rangers on February 17th, 2018 in relief. He faced six shots, stopping five.
Halverson was a second-round draft pick of the Rangers in 2014 (59th overall) and signed an entry-level deal with New York in July of 2015.
The Mariners play three consecutive home games this weekend, which they are branding the “#3kend.” “Honor Flight Maine Night” presented by News Center Maine is Friday against the Cincinnati Cyclones at 7:15 PM.
