Charlotte Checkers CBS RADIO TO BROADCAST CHECKERS GAMES
WFNZ, WBCN will carry 40+ games; All games also available at GoCheckers.com

The Charlotte Checkers announced today that CBS Radio stations WFNZ The Fan 610AM and WBCN America’s Talk 1660AM will be the official radio carriers of games in the team’s inaugural American Hockey League season.

The schedule, subject to change, has 47 confirmed games to date; 19 of which will be available on WFNZ and 28 available on WBCN.

Jason Shaya, entering his fourth season as the voice of the Checkers, will call all of the play-by-play action, while former NHL player and ECHL Checkers assistant coach Jason Dawe will lend his expertise as color commentator for home games. Dawe played 366 in the NHL with the Buffalo Sabres, New York Islanders, Montreal Canadiens and New York Rangers before finishing his career in 2005 with the ECHL Checkers.

“We are very excited to have partnered with CBS Radio for broadcasts this year,” remarked Shaya. “Having two prominent radio stations covering Checkers games makes our inaugural AHL season that much more special.”

Fans will also be able to catch all 80 games on a live broadcast through streaming audio at www.gocheckers.com and www.theahl.com. In addition, NeuLion audio will join and stream playoffs. Visit www.gocheckers.com throughout the season for additional information.
