DULUTH, G.A. – The Greenville Swamp Rabbits fell to the Atlanta Gladiators 7-5 on Sunday evening after the Gladiators came back from an early 4-0 deficit at Gas South Arena in Duluth.
The Swamp Rabbits wasted little time getting the scoring started as Gavin Gould scored his first career goal 13 seconds into the game. Less than four minutes later, Greenville doubled their advantage as Brett Kemp scored a power play goal at 4:09 into the game. Later in the period, Kemp, again, found the back of the net with a power play goal at 17:20, before Liam Pecararo scored at 19:10 in the first to give the Swamp Rabbits the 4-0 lead at the break.
Early in the second, the Gladiators found an answer for Greenville’s scoring as Derek Topatigh scored a power play goal at 5:39. Nearing the end of the period, Hugo Roy deflected a rebound into the Greenville net at 17:43 to bring the Gladiators within two goals.
THIRD PERIOD
In the third, Atlanta scored a pair of early goals from Gabe Guertler at 3:01 and 4:21 to level the game at 4-4. Just before the midway mark of the period, Dalton Thrower gave Atlanta the 5-4 advantage at 9:17. At 14:26, Kemp would score a third time on the power play to tie the game at 5-5 and cap off his first career hat-trick in just his fifth professional game. Luke Nogard would score on a rebound at 17:19 for what would eventually be the game-winning goal. Cody Sylvester would secure the 7-5 score-line with an empty-net goal with two seconds left in regulation.
Greenville returns home to Bon Secours Wellness Arena on Thursday, November 11, to begin a three-game homestand against a pair of South Division foes. The Swamp Rabbits will battle the Jacksonville Icemen at 7:05 p.m. on Thursday before concluding the weekend with a couple of meetings with the Florida Everblades on Friday and Saturday.
