CINCINNATI, OH – The Cincinnati Cyclones announced today that Andrew Mossbrooks, Director of Broadcasting and Public Relations, will depart the team after accepting an American Hockey League (AHL) offer. Mossbrooks’ time with the Cyclones ends after two seasons, serving as the team’s voice from 2021-2023.
The Pennsylvania native joined the team as the ‘Clones prepared to return to play after sitting out the 2020-21 season during the COVID pandemic. Mossbrooks narrated not only the Cyclones’ return after a near 600-day absence from the ice but was also on the call for multiple milestones reached by the club. The most notable being the Cyclones’ franchise best 21-game point streak set from February 10 to March 26, 2023. Following the 2022-23 ECHL season, Mossbrooks was acknowledged by the league as a finalist for the ECHL PR Director of the Year Award for his outstanding efforts with local media.
“This was the hardest decision of my professional career,” said Mossbrooks. “While I’m excited to leap into the top minor hockey league in the world, my time in Cincinnati is something I’ll cherish forever. I still remember having tears in my eyes after getting the call and being offered to join the Cyclones two years ago. At that time, my goal was to make it to the ECHL and continue climbing from there. What I didn’t know is how much I would fall in love with this city, its awesome fanbase, along with players, coaches, and co-workers whom I consider friends. I will give never-ending thanks to Sean Lynn and Kristin Ropp for taking a chance on a nervous kid over a zoom interview who just really wanted to be a Cyclone. They’re the reason I get to climb another rung on my career ladder.”
Mossbrooks, 28, began calling hockey games for Millersville University from 2014-18 while obtaining a bachelor’s degree in broadcast communications. From there, he made stops in the North American Hockey League (NAHL) and the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) before joining the Cyclones. In addition to play-by-play, Mossbrooks handled all public and media relations tasks for the team while also assisting in content creation for Cyclones’ social channels, including the Two For Chirping Podcast.
“It is always bittersweet when one of my guys makes that jump into a higher level of pro hockey and one step closer to their dreams being realized,” said Cyclones Vice President and General Manager Kristin Ropp. “Mossy did an incredible job in the two seasons he was with us. He navigated a new world post-pandemic, and his play-by-play call is second to none. His enthusiasm for our team and city were infectious, and he elevated our image within the local media. He will most certainly be missed, and I’ll brag on him for years to come.”
The 2023-24 Cyclones season starts on home ice with First Face-Off on Saturday, October 21st!
