Marnell dealt to Cincinnati, Pezzetta added from Laval

PORTLAND, ME – October 23, 2018 – The Maine Mariners made a pair of roster moves on Tuesday, completing another trade with the Cincinnati Cyclones and also adding a fourth player from the AHL’s Laval Rocket.
In their third trade with Cincinnati in less than a month, Maine has acquired forward Shawn O’Donnell’s rights from the Cyclones in exchange for forward Mike Marnell. O’Donnell is currently playing for the Mariners AHL affiliate, Hartford, but had been under ECHL rights in Cincinnati, where he played 46 games last season with 19 goals and 25 assists. He was also an alternate captain. O’Donnell was loaned to Hartford for one game in 2017-18 and has played seven games for the Wolf Pack this season with one assist. The 30-year-old forward, who is eight games from official “veteran” status, also played on and off for Hartford from 2013-16. His other stops include ECHL Florida and Greenville, plus AHL Milwaukee. O’Donnell will remain in Hartford for the time being. Mike Marnell appeared in two games for the Mariners, without a point. He’s in his first year as a pro out of NCAA St. Lawrence University.
With their second roster move, the Mariners have added forward Michael Pezzetta, assigned by the Laval Rocket. Pezzetta is a 20-year-old rookie from Toronto, Ontario who was drafted and signed in 2016 by Montreal. He was the captain of the Sudbury Wolves of the OHL last season, before being traded to the Sarnia Sting midseason. Between the two teams, Pezzetta scored 23 goals and added 19 assists in 62 games. Drafted in the 6th round, 160th overall in 2016, he signed an entry-level contract with the Canadiens in March of this year. Pezzetta joins Morgan Adams-Moisan, Antoine Waked, and Ryan Culkin as players assigned to the Mariners from Laval. He is expected to join the team on Wednesday.
The Mariners host the Manchester Monarchs on Wednesday night, October 24th at the Cross Insurance Arena at 7:00 PM. The Mariners are members of the ECHL: the premier AA hockey league in the United States and a proud affiliate of the New York Rangers..
