– WORKING OVERTIME – Four of the Blueshirts’ six preseason games this year were decided in overtime. New York posted a 3-1 record in games decided in overtime in the preseason.
– POWER SURGE – New York was 1-for-3 (5:54) on the power play in tonight’s contest, and the Rangers registered six shots on goal while on the power play. The Rangers recorded a power play goal in each of their final five preseason games and registered six power play goals in the preseason this year.
– KILL ZONE – The Rangers were 5-for-5 (10:00) on the penalty kill in tonight’s game. New York killed off 31 of its opponents’ 33 power play opportunities in six preseason games this year (93.9%).
– THREE’S COMPANY – The Blueshirts recorded three goals in tonight’s contest. The Rangers tallied at least three goals in regulation/overtime in 48 of 82 regular season games in 2016-17.
– David Desharnais registered two points (one goal, one assist), including a power play goal, recorded two shots on goal, and posted a plus-one rating. Desharnais registered three points (two goals, one assist) in three preseason contests this year. Entering the 2017-18 season, Desharnais has averaged at least 0.50 points per game in five of his seven full seasons (min. 40 games played) in the NHL.
– Michael Grabner recorded a goal, registered three shots on goal, and was credited with two blocked shots. Grabner led the Rangers in even-strength goals last season (26), and he became the fourth Ranger since 1996-97 to tally at least 25 even strength goals in a season (along with Jaromir Jagr, Marian Gaborik, and Rick Nash).
– Paul Carey tallied the first goal of the game and tied for the game-high with four shots on goal. Carey established AHL career-highs in goals (24), assists (31), points (55), plus/minus rating (plus-14), power play goals (eight), and game-winning goals (six) with Hershey last season.
– Brady Skjei notched a power play assist and tied for the game-high with three blocked shots while skating in a game-high 23:41 of ice time. Skjei was selected to the NHL’s All-Rookie Team in 2016-17, becoming the third defenseman in Rangers history to accomplish the feat (Brian Leetch – 1988-89; Michael Del Zotto – 2009-10).
– Jimmy Vesey registered an assist, was credited with two hits and posted a plus-one rating in 19:35 of ice time. Last season, Vesey ranked second among NHL rookies in game-winning goals (six), tied for fifth in power play goals (five), ranked seventh in takeaways (44), and tied for 12th in goals (16).
– Vinni Lettieri recorded a power play assist, tied for the team-high with three hits, and registered three shots on goal in 17:23 of ice time. He recorded two points (one goal, one assist), both on the power play, in four preseason games this year. Lettieri established collegiate career-highs in games played (38), goals (19), points (37), and plus/minus rating (plus-seven) during the 2016-17 season.
– J.T. Miller tallied an assist, recorded two shots on goal, and posted a plus-one rating. He has either eclipsed or matched his goals, assists, and points, and plus/minus rating totals from the previous season throughout each of his first five NHL seasons (2012-13 – 2016-17). Miller established career-highs in assists (34), points (56), game-winning goals (six), plus/minus rating (plus-17), shorthanded goals (three), and shorthanded points (four), and tied career-highs in goals (22) and games played (82) in 2016-17.
– Ondrej Pavelec made 34 saves in tonight’s contest, stopped all eight shots he faced while the Rangers were shorthanded, and made at least 10 saves in each of the three regulation periods.
