Greenville, SC – The Greenville Swamp Rabbits, proud ECHL affiliate of the New York Rangers and the AHL’s Hartford Wolf Pack, announced that veteran forward Curt Gogol has signed as the team embarks on Training Camp ahead of the 2017-18 season. The Swamp Rabbits also received four skaters from the Hartford Wolf Pack in addition to signing Gogol. Greenville has 29 players rostered as camp opens at the Pavilion Recreation Complex today.
Gogol, 26, signs with the Swamp Rabbits after spending 37 games in Estero, Florida with the Everblades. Greenville’s newest skater netted six goals and added 11 assists for Florida last year and suited up for a pair of Kelly Cup Playoff games. The physical forward also racked up 167 penalty minutes in the regular season.
The Calgary, AB native has logged 179 games in the AHL and earned 25 points (15G, 10A) with 663 PIMS during stints with the Worchester Sharks, Iowa Wild, and Ontario Reign. In addition to his AHL experience, the 6-foot-1, 190-pound winger has suited up for 84 ECHL contests throughout his career, garnering 60 points (27G, 33A) and 298 PIMS for the Alaska Aces, Colorado Eagles, and Everblades.
Gogol played three seasons in the WHL before turning pro. With the Kelowna Rockets, Saskatoon Blades, and Chilliwack Bruins, he earned 26 points (7G, 19A) and 494 PIMS in 169 games. He also added 37 playoff games to his resume and captured the WHL Championship in 2009 with the Rockets. Gogol went on to sign an NHL contract with the San Jose Sharks the following season.
The Swamp Rabbits also added forwards Adam Chapie and Dawson Leedahl, as well as defensemen Brenden Kotyk and Sergey Zborovskiy from the Hartford Wolf Pack.
Greenville hits the ice for the first time today and will skate all the way into Opening Weekend on Friday, Oct. 13 at 7 p.m. On the Swamp Rabbits Training Camp roster are 16 players signed to ECHL contracts, four players on NHL or AHL contracts, and nine players who have been invited to camp on a try-out contract.
