Greenville, SC – The Greenville Swamp Rabbits, proud ECHL affiliate of the New York Rangers and the AHL’s Hartford Wolf Pack, announced today the acquisition of goaltender Ty Rimmer from the Kansas City Mavericks in exchange for future considerations. The netminder has played 59 career ECHL games and boasts 80 games of experience in the American, Central, and Alps Hockey Leagues during his four pro seasons.
In addition to the trade, Greenville has released forward Ricky DeRosa and goaltender Eric Levine. Forwards Derek Sutliffe and John Gustaffson, goaltender Greg Dodds, and defenseman Fabien Currit have also been released from tryout agreements.
Rimmer, 25, comes back to the United States after playing in central Europe last season. In the Alps Hockey League, Rimmer suited up for 31 games and ranked among the top eight goaltenders in the league sporting a 2.36 goals-against-average, and .921 save percentage. Prior to his stint overseas, Rimmer manned the crease for the Norfolk Admirals and Bakersfield Condors in 2015-16. The goaltender posted a 14-13-3-1 record, 3.01 goals against average, and .910 save percentage for the Admirals in 34 games.
The Edmonton, Alberta native split his time with the Edmonton Oilers affiliates after signing an AHL contract with the Oklahoma City Barons in 2013. Rimmer carries a 22-24-4-3 record, two shutouts, 3.09 goals against average, and .902 save percentage in his ECHL career with Norfolk and the Bakersfield Condors. In addition, he has tallied a 3-3-1-1 record in ten AHL contests between the Barons, Condors, and Manchester Monarchs. During his rookie season, Rimmer was recognized on the CHL’s All-Rookie Team, playing 39 games for the Quad City Mallards in 2013-14.
The 6-foot-1, 180-pound goalie is a product of the WHL, playing for the Brandon Wheat Kings, Prince George Cougars, Tri-City Americans, and Lethbridge Hurricanes from 2009 to 2013. Rimmer logged 159 games in the WHL, earning a 74-65-4-10 career record, 10 shutouts, 3.01 goals against average, and .901 save percentage. He also was honored as a WHL First Team All-Star during the 2011-12 season and boasted the league’s best goals-against average (2.43) and save percentage (.922).
After sweeping the preseason with a pair of 4-3 wins against Atlanta and South Carolina, Rimmer and the Swamp Rabbits open the regular season this Friday. Puck drop at the Bon Secours Wellness Arena is at 7 p.m. Greenville takes the ice against the Wheeling Nailers.
