New York, New York – The New York Rangers announced today that the team has agreed to terms with restricted free agent forward Pavel Buchnevich.
Buchnevich, 24, skated in 64 games with the Rangers this past season, registering 21 goals and 17 assists for 38 points, along with 13 penalty minutes. He established career-highs in several categories in 2018-19, including goals, even-strength goals (14), power-play goals (seven), and average ice time (15:10). Buchnevich led the Rangers (min. 10 games played) in goals per 60 minutes of ice time during the past season (1.30), and he also ranked fourth among all Rangers in points per 60 minutes of ice time (2.35). Buchnevich tied for second on the Blueshirts in power-play goals, ranked third in goals, and ranked fourth in points in 2018-19, and 30 of his 38 points during the season were either a goal or the primary assist on a goal. He tallied a point in eight of his final 10 games of the season (five goals, four assists), and he posted a career-high seven-game point streak from Mar. 16, 2019 at Minnesota to Mar. 31, 2019 at Philadelphia.
The 6-3, 196-pounder has skated in 179 career NHL games over three seasons (2016-17 – 2018-19), all with the Rangers, registering 43 goals and 58 assists for 101 points, along with 46 penalty minutes. Buchnevich has recorded the fourth-most goals and the fifth-most points by a Russian player in Rangers history. Among players who have skated in at least 80 games with the Rangers over the past two seasons (2017-18 and 2018-19), Buchnevich ranks second on the team in assists per 60 minutes of ice time (1.33) and ranks third in points per 60 minutes of ice time (2.33). He established career-highs in assists (29) and points (43) during the 2017-18 season. Buchnevich has skated in five career Stanley Cup Playoff games, and he has tallied one career assist in the playoffs.
The Cherepovets, Russia native was selected by the Rangers in the third round, 75th overall, of the 2013 NHL Entry Draft.
