KUHN: FORMER QUINNIPIAC CAPTAIN NICK JERMAIN SIGNS WITH SWAMP RABBITS

BY: Jordan Kuhn, Greenville Swamp Rabbits

GREENVILLE, S.C. — The Greenville Swamp Rabbits have agreed to terms with Quinnipiac University captain Nick Jermain on a Standard Player Contract for the 2020–21 season. Jermain, 24, enters his first professional season on a high note.

As captain of the Bobcats, Jermain finished tied for fourth on the team in points (21), and led the way to a 21-11-2 overall record, and a 14-6-2 record in ECAC play, good for third place. Across four seasons and 123 games at QU, Jermain scored 26 goals and 25 assists.

“I was really excited to sign my first professional contract. My conversation with Coach Lord made me feel that it would be the best opportunity for me and my future,” Jermain said. “It’s just a bonus that Greenville is a great city. I can tell they have great fans and a great organization.”

The native of Cos Cob, Connecticut was a reliable player on the ice, with a +3 career rating and eight career game-winning goals, and he was also a standout off the ice. He finished his collegiate career as a three-time ECAC Hockey All-Academic selection, and the co-recipient of the Coaches’ Award at the conclusion of his senior season, in recognition of his contributions on ice and as a team leader.

“Nick is an exciting signing for us, ticking a number of boxes overall. First off, Nick’s character is off the charts, with great reports from everyone we spoke to, including his coaching staff at Quinnipiac,” said head coach Andrew Lord. “Through talking to Nick, you can tell he is a team-first guy that’s willing to do anything to help. On the ice, Nick reads the game very well, and had a breakout season production-wise last year. He has great details, is good defensively, and can also be effective on the PK. He is an honest, 200-foot hockey player that brings offensive upside, and that plays very hard with a lot of desire.”

After a strong showing at Brunswick School, Jermain took his talents to the Connecticut Oilers for the 2014–15 season, and it was there where his career took off. He scored 36 points in 38 regular season games, compiled 130 penalty minutes, and then upped the ante with 13 points in 11 playoff games en route to an Eastern Hockey League championship.

From there, Jermain joined the Merritt Centennials of the BCHL and put up point-per-game numbers, and received his offer to Quinnipiac.
