TODAY’S GAME

The Rangers play their 27th game of the 2017-18 season today, Dec. 5, against the Pittsburgh Penguins in a Metropolitan Division matchup at PPG Paints Arena (7:30 p.m. ET – TV: MSG Network; Radio: ESPN 98.7 FM). Today’s game is the second of four consecutive contests the Rangers are playing against Metropolitan Division opponents. New York has earned a win in five of its last six games (5-1-0 record), and the Rangers have outscored their opponents, 24-11, over the last six games. The Blueshirts have won 11 of their last 14 games (11-3-0 record) and 13 of their last 18 contests (13-5-0 record). GOALS GALORE

The Rangers have registered at least three goals in 16 of the last 20 games, as well as four or more goals (including team goals awarded for a shootout win) in 13 of those contests (74 goals; 73 in regulation/overtime). New York ranks fourth in the NHL in goals since Oct. 17 (73).

MAKING THE DIFFERENCE

The Blueshirts have posted a plus-nine goal differential this season, which ranks third in the Metropolitan Division and fifth in the Eastern Conference. The Rangers have posted a plus-20 goal differential since Oct. 26, and rank second in the NHL (first in the Eastern Conference) in goal differential over the span.

RESILIENT RANGERS

ON POINT

The Rangers are one of two NHL teams that have two defensemen who have tallied 13 or more assists this season (Shattenkirk – 14; McDonagh – 13).

KING HENRIK

Henrik Lundqvist has posted a 5-0-0 record, along with a 1.68 GAA, a .945 SV%, and 1 SO in the last six games, and he has stopped 131 of 137 shots he has faced at even strength over the span (.956 SV% at even strength). He has also allowed two goals or fewer in seven of his last 10 appearances, posting a 7-2-0 record, along with a 2.09 GAA, a .937 SV%, and 1 SO over the span. Lundqvist has made at least 30 saves in five of the last eight games and in 10 of his last 19 appearances. He is tied for second in the NHL in appearances this season (23), and he has been selected as one of the game’s Three Stars in 12 of his 23 appearances. Lundqvist has started each of the last 14 games, dating back to Oct. 31 vs. Vegas (he is expected to make his 15th consecutive start in today’s contest). He has posted an 11-2-0 record, along with a 2.36 GAA, a .927 SV%, and 1 SO in those 14 games, and he leads the NHL in wins over the span. Lundqvist has earned 13 wins this season, and he is the only goaltender in NHL history who has earned 13 or more wins in each of his first 13 NHL seasons.

TRUE BLUE

Lundqvist has earned 418 wins in his NHL career (all with the Rangers), and he is tied with Tony Esposito for the second-most wins a goaltender has earned with one franchise in NHL history (Esposito earned 418 wins with Chicago). The only goaltender in NHL history who has earned more career wins with one franchise than Lundqvist has with the Rangers is Martin Brodeur (688 with New Jersey).

UP FOR GRABS

Michael Grabner tallied a hat trick on Dec. 1 vs. Carolina. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Grabner became the first Ranger to register two empty-net goals in the same game since the start of the expansion era (1967-68). He leads the NHL with six empty-net goals this season, and his six empty-net goals are tied for the fourth-most in one season in NHL history. He is tied for second in the NHL in even strength goals (13) and is tied for 10th in the NHL in plus/minus rating (plus-11) in 2017-18, and he is also tied for the NHL lead in goals since Oct. 26 (12). Grabner ranks second in the NHL (min. 10 games played) in goals per 60 minutes of ice time this season (2.21). Since he joined the Rangers prior to the start of last season, Grabner is the only NHL player who has recorded at least 40 goals and a plus-30 rating. Grabner is expected to skate in his 500th career NHL game in tomorrow’s contest.

KREID-ING HIGH

Chris Kreider has tallied a goal/point in three of the last five games (five goals, one assist), and he has posted two multi-goal games over the span. He has also recorded seven points (five goals, two assists) in the last six games and 13 points (10 goals, three assists) in the last 18 games. Kreider enters the contest with 99 career NHL goals and 99 career NHL assists.

WELCOME MATS

Mats Zuccarello has registered a point in five of the last six games (one goal, five assists), and he has recorded 12 points (two goals, 10 assists) in the last 14 contests. He leads the Rangers in assists this season (16).
