Blueshirts trade Ryan Graves to Colorado

NEW YORK, February 26, 2018 – New York Rangers General Manager Jeff Gorton announced today that the team has acquired defenseman Chris Bigras from the Colorado Avalanche in exchange for Ryan Graves.
Bigras, 23, has split the 2017-18 season between the Avalanche and the San Antonio Rampage of the American Hockey League (AHL). He has skated in 15 NHL games with Colorado, registering one assist and two penalty minutes. Bigras has also skated in 20 AHL contests with San Antonio, registering one goal and five assists for six points, along with 14 penalty minutes.
The 6-1, 190-pounder has skated in 46 career NHL games over parts of two seasons (2015-16; 2017-18), both with the Avalanche, registering one goal and three assists for four points, along with 18 penalty minutes. Bigras posted a plus-one rating while making his NHL debut on Jan. 14, 2016 vs. New Jersey and he registered his first career NHL assist/point while skating in his second career NHL game on Jan. 16, 2016 at Columbus. He recorded his first career NHL goal Mar. 1, 2016 at Minnesota.
Bigras has also skated in 109 career AHL games, registering 12 goals and 36 assists for 48 points, along with 59 penalty minutes. Prior to beginning his professional career, he played four seasons of junior hockey with the Owen Sound Attack of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), and he was selected to the OHL’s First All-Star Team in 2014-15.
The Orillia, Ontario, native was originally selected by Colorado in the second round, 32nd overall, of the 2013 NHL Entry Draft.
Graves has skated in 57 AHL games with the Hartford Wolf Pack this season, registering four goals and seven assists for 11 points, along with 66 penalty minutes.
