Herm Sorcher, Danbury Whalers president and general manager announced Friday that Right Wing, Devin Guy has signed an agreement with the team to return for the 2011-12 season.
Guy, a native of Highland Falls, New York, was 6th on the team in scoring with 9 goals and 17 assists. A veteran of 74 professional games, last season Guy was one of twelve Whalers players promoted to AA & AAA, as he was called up for a game with the Elmira Jackals of the ECHL.
2010-11 season for the 6’ 200 pounder was highlighted on the weekend games of 2/4 & 2/5 vs. Cape Cod & Rome. Guy finished the two game homestand with 2 goals & 2 assists. The 26-year old also posted 2 goals & 1 assist vs. Cape Cod on 2/19. In a 6-game stretch from 2/4 – 2/20, Guy registered 12 points in a 6 game scoring streak.
Guy’s finest moment of the season came on Tuesday, November 17, 2010. Traveling on the team bus home from Broome County following that night’s game, the Whalers saw a young driver in a pickup truck swerve off the snowy Highway 84. It was then that both Guy and teammate Ryan Donovan rushed into action, running down the embankment, kicking in the window, and pulling the driver to safety. For their actions both the two Whale players were named as the Good Samaritan Award Winners by the Red Cross.
On returning to Danbury, Guy stated, “Playing hockey in Danbury is an honor. To wear the Kelly Green in front of hockey’s best fans is pretty special. I’m proud to play in this city and represent the Danbury Whalers organization.”
Guy is also the defending champion of the Danbury Whalers Fantasy Football Challenge winning back to back weeks in November.
