GREENVILLE, SC – This Saturday the Greenville Road Warriors will be saying “Thank You” to the U.S. Military Service Members, Veterans, and their families when they host the South Carolina Stingrays at 7:05 p.m. at the BI-LO Center.
“The Road Warriors are proud to support our service men and women and have the community share in celebrating their service and sacrifice on this special evening. We’re pleased to welcome veterans and active duty service members, their families and local military organizations who support those who serve our country. We want to give the community an opportunity to show their support for our men and women in uniform as we recognize local community organizations and provide awareness for local chapters of some crucial organizations that support active military, veterans, and their families,” said Road Warriors president and general manager Neil Smith.
Men and women who are currently active in the military, or any military veteran, can come see the Road Warriors take on the Stingrays for just $6 by showing their military ID at the Breakaway Honda Box Office at the BI-LO Center.
For the second straight season the Road Warriors are teaming up with Greenville Area Blue Star Mothers to gather donations to send to troops overseas. The Road Warriors and Blue Star Mothers are asking that fans bring individual packets of powdered drink mix, beef jerky, prepaid iTunes cards, or hand and foot warmers to donate. Fans can also make cash contributions which help cover the $12 it costs to send a box overseas.
Another way to support Blue Star Mothers and their efforts on Saturday is by purchasing a copy of Fighting Fear: Winning the War at Home When Your Soldier Leaves for Battle. The book Fighting Fear was written by Simpsonville, SC native Edie Melson and tells the stories, including her own, of parents, spouses, and siblings dealing with their personal journeys as loved ones fight overseas. Melson will be selling and signing copies of Fighting Fear at the BI-LO Center on Saturday night and portions of the proceeds from the sales will be donated to Greenville Blue Star Mothers.
The festivities will also include a ceremonial puck drop by Colonel Mindy Williams who is the Assistant Chief of Staff G-1, for the 4th Marine Logisitics Group, Marine Forces Reserve. Colonel Williams has spent tours of duty in Okinawa, Japan and Iraq and served as a Series Commander at 4th Recruit Training Battalion at Parris Island, South Carolina.
Group tickets are still available for Military Appreciation Night and groups of 10 or more can get discounted tickets and preferred seating based on availability. To book your group outing, call a Road Warriors Representative at 864-674-PUCK (7825).
The Road Warriors are also home this week on Thursday, November 10 to battle the South Carolina Stingrays at 7:35 p.m. It’s a Throwback Thursday with $2 draft beers, fountain drinks, hot dogs, and pretzels. College students can also get a $6 ticket by showing a valid college ID at the Breakaway Honda Box Office.
