PORTLAND, ME – October 29, 2018 – Mariners goaltender Connor LaCouvee has been loaned to the Utica Comets, the team announced on Monday.

LaCouvee made his first professional appearance in relief on October 20th in Worcester against the Railers. He stopped 10 of 11 shots in the third period of a 4-1 loss. The next day, LaCouvee made his first pro start and defeated the Newfoundland Growlers with a 32 save effort against 34 shots. This also marked the first victory in Mariners franchise history. Three days later, he stopped 36 of 39 as the Mariners defeated Manchester, 4-3.

LaCouvee signed with the Mariners over the summer after finishing his college career at Minnesota State Mankato and posting the third best GAA in the nation (1.80) to go along with a .914 save percentage. He played previously at Boston University (2014-17). LaCouvee is a native of Qualicum Beach, British Columbia.

The Mariners have carried three goaltenders (LaCouvee, Brandon Halverson, and Chris Nell) since the end of training camp.

The Mariners are members of the ECHL: the premier AA hockey league in the United States and a proud affiliate of the New York Rangers. Maine hosts Reading Royals this Friday, November 2nd at the Cross Insurance Arena at 7:30 PM. It’s “Hockey Fights Cancer” night, and a “1-2-3 Friday” featuring $1 hot dogs, $2 popcorn and $3 Bud Light Drafts through the start of the second period.
