Connecticut Whale fans watching Thursday night’s game between the New York Rangers and Carolina Hurricanes saw many of their AHL favorites in the Blueshirts lineup. Dale Weise, Kris Newbury, were up front while Ryan McDonagh continued to impress on the defensive side of the puck. Chad Kolarik, just called up Wednesday made his NHL Debut in the Rangers 4-1 defeat.
Kolarik, who always seems to know the right thing to say when talking to the local press. The recent addition to the Rangers organization said the right thing again when he spoke with Andrew Gross of the Bergen Record. Kolarik, who got the primary assist on the lone Rangers goal, speaking of his first NHL point said that he’d gladly trade it for a win. “I was brought here to help this team win,” he said.
Speaking in his post game press conference, head coach John Tortorella, summing up the play of his team, said, “We were brutal defensively.”
Tortorella showered praise on Kolarik for his and Newbury’s play and also pointed out his pleasure with Dale Weise. However the Rangers coach said that he fully intends to give Brodie Dupont an opportunity which would mean the press box for Dale Weise, saying of Newbury and Kolarik. “They’re going to stay in the lineup.”
