According to TSN former Wolf Pack General Manager Al Coates has been fired by President and General Manager (and former Hartford Whalers GM) Brian Burke.
Coates was the Wolf Pack’s Vice-President and General Manager from 2000 – 2001 until he left to take a position with the Anaheim Mighty Ducks as Senior Vice-President of Business Operations at the start of the 2003 –2004 season when he was replaced by current GM Jim Schoenfeld.
In his first season with the Pack, Coates’ team ended up 14 games over .500 and second only to league regular-season-champion Worcester in the New England Division. In his second season, the Pack made it to the second round of the playoffs before being eliminated by the Hamilton Bulldogs. In Coates’ third and final season running the team, the team was eliminated in the first round by their I-91 rivals, the Springfield Falcons.
Howlings wishes Coates great success in finding a new opportunity in hockey. With his talent, it shouldn’t take too long.
