CHECKERS ANNOUNCE FOURTH ANNUAL “PINK IN THE RINK”
Event To Take Place Mar. 13; Proceeds Benefitting Carolina Breast Friends
The Charlotte Checkers announced today that the fourth annual “Pink in the Rink” game will be held Saturday, Mar. 13 with proceeds from various in-game initiatives benefitting Carolina Breast Friends.
In the past three seasons, the Checkers have raised over $72,200 through jersey auctions, ticket fundraising and merchandise sales for “Pink in the Rink”-related charities, including Carolina Breast Friends, Susan G. Komen for the Cure and the American Cancer Society.
During the event, the Checkers will don special pink jerseys that will be auctioned off live after the game. The Checkers will also raise money through fundraising tickets and merchandise sales.
The funds raised from the “Pink in the Rink” game will be used for the design and construction of the “Pink House”, a “one-stop-shop” where breast cancer survivors have the opportunity to meet with each other in a comfortable, inviting atmosphere. They will participate in monthly educational/social meetings as well as fitness/yoga training, nutritional education, wig/scarf boutique and other counseling and creative workshops.
“This will be our fourth ‘Pink in the Rink’ and CBF has been with us since the inaugural event,” said Checkers COO Tera Black. “To be able to host this night with this amazing group of people is truly an honor. It seems like everyone has been affected by breast cancer in one way or another. Because of that, this night has a spirit about it that is just indescribable. You just have to be there to feel it, and we are really looking forward to raising money for the Pink House.”
Carolina Breast Friends is a Charlotte-based breast cancer organization whose core service is providing monthly meetings for breast cancer survivors to come together, lend support to each other and learn from medical experts.
“It was the dream of CBF founder Kristy Adams-Ebel to build a house where breast cancer survivors can convene and help each other,” remarked Pam Darnell, membership director for Carolina Breast Friends. “We are very pleased that we are able to realize this dream with the help of an event such as this. The Checkers staff, as always, has been very supportive and we can’t thank them enough for all they continue to do for CBF.”
The Checkers will donate to CBF $6 from every $15 fundraising ticket sold. For more information or to purchase tickets for the event, please visit www.gocheckers.com/pinkintherink or contact Danielle Adkins at dadkins@gocheckers.com or 704-444-1876.
