The Greenville Road Warriors announced today that they received goaltender Brian Stewart and forward Garrett Klotz from the Adirondack Phantoms. At the same time, goaltender Nic Riopel, defenseman Cullen Eddy, and forward Shane Harper were recalled by the Phantoms.
Stewart is a native of Burnaby, British Columbia and is currently in his first pro season. The 25-year-old goalie played in three games for the Phantoms in 2009-10 season on an amateur tryout contract. He won his first pro game April 7, 2010 with 31 saves as Adirondack beat Binghamton 3-2 in overtime. He has appeared in four games with the Phantoms before being loaned to Greenville.
Klotz is a Regina, Saskatchewan native currently in his third pro season. He has appeared in 10 games this season with the Phantoms registering 10 penalty minutes. The 21-year-old played in 73 games last season with the Phantoms and registered six points (2G, 4A) and 94 penalty minutes. Klotz was selected by the Philadelphia Flyers in the third round (#66 overall) of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.
Riopel, 21, was a 5th round choice by the Flyers in 2009. In nine games with the Road Warriors this season he has registered six wins, one shutout, and a 2.65 goals-against-average. Riopel was named ECHL Goalie of the Week for the week of 10/25/10 – 10/31/10 after recording a 2-0-0 record, 1.50 GAA, and a .944 save percentage.
Eddy, a 6-0 defenseman from Hidden Vally, Pennsylvania is in his first season of professional hockey. Eddy was previously called up by the Phantoms November 17, 2010 and registered his first American Hockey League point in his first AHL game. Eddy has recorded three points (1G, 2A) and 14 penalty minutes in nine games with the Road Warriors this season.
Harper, a Valencia, California native, is currently in his first professional season. In 11 games with the Road Warriors, Harper has recorded 10 points (3G, 7A). Harper scored his first professional goal November 7, 2010 against Gwinnett and had a five-game point streak (2G, 5A) from 11/6/10 – 11/13/10.
Mark your calendars! The Road Warriors are back on home ice to take on the Wheeling Nailers tonight at 7:05 p.m. at the BI-LO Center.
